Philippians 4:6: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."
Prayer is the Christian's infallible resource in every situation, in all difficulties. When you cannot use your sword, you can take up the weapon of prayer. The powder in your weapon may be damp, the string of your bow may be broken, but the weapon of prayer must never be out of action. Leviathan laughs at the javelin, but trembles at prayer. The sword and the spear need polishing, but prayer never rusts; and when we think it dullest, it cuts best.
Prayer is an open door that no one can shut. Demons may surround you on every side, but the way upward is always open, and as long as that path is unobstructed, you will not fall into the hands of the enemy. We can never be taken by force or storm, as long as heavenly help descends to support us in our time of need.
Prayer is never out of season: in summer and winter, its merchandise is precious. Prayer obtains an audience with God, in the darkness of night, in the midst of business, in the heat of midday, in the shadows of evening. In any condition, whether poverty, sickness, obscurity, slander, or sin, your covenant God will welcome your prayer and answer it from His holy place.
Prayer is never useless. True prayer is always true power. You may not always get what you ask for, but you will always have your true needs met. When God doesn't answer His children according to the letter, He does according to the spirit. If you ask for coarse flour, will you be angry because He gives you the finest flour? If you seek health of the body, should you complain if, instead, He turns your sickness into the healing of spiritual ills? Isn't it better for affliction to be sanctified than removed? My soul, do not forget to present your petition and your supplication, for the Lord is willing to grant your desires.
