5/23/2018 update: The NFL just handed Trump a huge win: NFL owners have approved a national anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance but gives them the option to remain in the locker room if they prefer.
Reactions from New York Jets CEO Christopher Johnson: "If somebody [on the Jets] takes a knee, that fine will be borne by the organization, by me, not the players. I never want to put restrictions on the speech of our players."
