I recently purchased a set of "SONIC MONKEY - vintage PAF 61" hand made pick ups and put them on my 1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard. Since I also own an original 1961 Gibson SG, of course powered with original PAFs I decided a comparison might be interesting so here we are. Both guitars are plugged, using a "monster cable" cord, without any effect, into a Cornell Custom 40 tube amp power switched to 10 watts, volume tone and bass turned up to 5. No distorsion device of any kind was used. I tried to play the same notes, more or less eventho each guitar inspires different notes. verdict ? of course a Les Paul is not a SG but these SONIC MONKEY pick ups sound to me as if they play in the same leagu as the original PAFs. What do you reckon ?
