High Tech High Media Arts Exhibition: 12th Grade
Computer programming and performance.
Context:
An Ode to Roland Barthes
In 1957, an extraordinary work of literature was published detailing concepts far ahead of its time. “Mythologies” was a game-changing look at the way humans built the lore around them, and turned the world they knew into a place of fictional characters. A look at stereotypes before stereotypes were a widespread notion, “Mythologies” challenged views in 1957- as we hope to challenge your views today.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Learn to write a computer program (most for the first time) and create a custom visual experience in the form of an interactive slideshow or game.
2. Research visual meaning and cultural signs through the
semiotic lenses of Roland Barthes. Use this research to expose a contemporary problem perpetuated by society and the media.
3. Create a two-minute performance to engage an authentic audience.
