The great thing about Macro Photography is there is no 1 way only - I love to switch it up, including shooting without a flash in the mid day sun for a super minimalist grab and go setup!
But the reality is, mid day the light can be very harsh and hard. Using this simple diffuser with these techniques will help produce amazing results while still keeping the shutter speed fast enough to produce sharp insect macro shots, and also transform your close up and flower photography!
The key to shooting without a flash, even at midday, is to ensure you are setting your ISO high enough or allowing it to have enough range to adjust itself if using auto ISO. Of course this also depends on the subjects you are shooting, wind conditions, hand holding vs tripod etc... But generally the techniques in this video are general enough to outline how to do in on average days with slight subject movement for single shot success!
