These were hard words for Jairus to hear when Jesus spoke them - after Jairus had already lost her daughter to death. In this first-person narrative homily, Pastor Sparling assumes the character of Jairus, retelling the events of Mark 5:21-43 with an eye toward the meaning of Jesus' own resurrection.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In his retelling of Jairus' story, Pastor Sparling imagines a fictional meeting between Peter and Jairus years later - after Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Pastor imagines that meeting took place so that they could get their facts straight - Mark would rely on Peter's experiences to write his Gospel. We do not know if Jairus and Peter ever had such a meeting. However, we do know that the events of Mark 5 are historically accurate, so it is plausible that Peter (or Mark himself!) might have revisited Jairus at some later date. Regardless, the fictional aspect of this sermon is merely a vehicle for the retelling of the historical aspects. We hope you enjoy!
