In North Korea, red lipstick and excessive makeup are prohibited because they are reminiscent of Western culture and capitalism, or because they contradict the government's policy of frugality and humility. Kim Yo-jong is a prime example of exemplary North Korean makeup. The North Korean government uses inspection teams called "Kyuchalde" to crack down on makeup and other fashion choices, which constitutes a human rights violation that undermines freedom of expression and individual autonomy.
