How do you build a great team? Put diverse cross-functional people in a group with the right vision and watch them rock out. Although I mention several principles of Scrum, I don't call out Scrum itself here. I still recommend that leaders take Scrum training to understand the concept of a cross-functional and responsible team that takes tasks off of a prioritized task list (product backlog). I also discuss Dr. Bruce Tuckman's stages of group formation as well as Frederick Herzberg's two-factor theory of motivation to work, considering intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors. This is the theory that firmly explained to me that pay is a hygiene factor if you have a decent wage, not a motivating factor. True motivating factors are intrinsic. Pay generally only motivates you to perform labor when you are poor or struggling.
