This sequence of extreme ultraviolet images shows the dynamic interactions of neighboring active regions. There are flows and brightenings and a lot of other activity but no actual flares. An active region is an area on the Sun with a large concentration of magnetic field, often containing sunspots and sometimes producing flares.
