Because of his menacing gaze inherited from his father, Ryūji Takasu is a teenager feared by the other students at his high school, as he is considered a delinquent. This image being the opposite of who he truly is, he longs to break free from it completely to avoid the resulting consequences. Ryûji hasn't given up hope of achieving this, thanks in particular to his friend Yûsaku Kitamura who, in addition to seeing through this misunderstanding, introduced him to Minori Kushieda, with whom he fell in love. While thinking about her, he accidentally bumps into Taiga Aisaka, a classmate and friend of Minori's, whose bad temper is matched only by her strength. Through a series of coincidences, Ryûji learns that Taiga is his new neighbor and that she is in love with Yûsaku. An ambiguous relationship then develops between the two, each striving to get closer to their respective loved ones.
