POLES on Nanga Parbat: A brief HISTORY
A Polish mountaineer, Pawel Tomasz Kopec, climbed Nanga Parbat on July 2, 2023. It was his second 8000-meter mountain. Previously, he had summited Manaslu in 2019. Tomasz Kopec was part of a seven-members Polish Expedition. Tomasz Kopec, and two of his fellow climbers, Piotr Krzyowski, and Waldemar Kowalewski reached the summit quite late in the afternoon. All climbed independently and without supplementary oxygen. High winds and rain were reported at the summit.
On the descent, at an altitude of about 7,300 meters, Kopec began to feel more and more tired and dehydrated. He began to lose strength rapidly. Fatigue and dehydration had greatly weakened him.
He suffered breathing problems while descending the mountain in harsh weather conditions. He was severely exhausted, and eventually died of cardiac arrest in the morning near Camp 4 at an altitude of about 7,000 meters.
