This piece is a portion of a very special personal project called HONOR, where I make peace with my past.
I wrote these words close to 10 years ago now. They felt so raw that I couldn’t really look at them for a decade. Lately though, they’ve been whispering in the back of my mind. Finally ready to be spoken & let go of.
I’ve learned that sitting in the shame is part of the healing process. Part of the release of it. Part of my personal reclamation.
I never expected for this poem to unfold like this - but I am so grateful it did 🙏.
Hok - I can’t thank you enough for taking this idea under your wing & bringing it to heights I could not have even imagined. Every moment of the choreographic process with you is something I will cherish. I learned so much from not only your impeccable eye & attention to detail, but also your patience & love for the craft itself 💜.
Dancers, thank you for holding space for me to be vulnerable & use my voice. I have so much respect for each of you as movers but am so grateful to get to get to know you a little closer as humans, too. To get to sing for you in rehearsal & work with you on something that is so close to my heart feels like a dream-come-true 🥺✨.
Kalyne, thank you for capturing this piece with so much care. It’s not easy to make these shots look effortless & I am so happy with how it all emerged. Studio B at TMILLY studio really makes the perfect canvas 🎨.
