The GIUK gap is a strip of ocean between Greenland, Iceland, and the United Kingdom. For 70 years, NATO considered this passage controlled. Depths are up to 1,600 meters. The operational depth of the Yasen-M is 600. The submarine passes UNDER the detection zone of surface ships. A patrol aircraft takes off from Keflavik, but by the time it arrives, the submarine has already passed.
