Statins are a class of medications used to lower blood cholesterol. High cholesterol increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Taking statins can lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL) levels and reduce plaque buildup in blood vessels, which can improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of serious complications.
