Instrumental Music: El é Sabim by Grace Evora
During a business trip, I recently visited and reviewed Izzy’s Restaurant in New Bedford, MA, for lunch.
Cape Verdean restaurants in Massachusetts reflect the rich, cultural heritage and culinary traditions of Cape Verde (Kubiverdi), which is a set of islands off the west coast of Africa. These restaurants offer a unique blend of African, Portuguese, and even some Brazilian influences because of its history as a Portuguese colony and a major transport for the Atlantic slave trade.
Deeply ingrained in my genetic composition, I love Cape Verdean food. There are times, however, when I have to tweak the recipes, because I am a vegetarian — more specifically, a pescatarian, but the flavors are still rich and flavorful, and I still maintain the joy of the cultural cuisine.
The history of Cape Verdeans in New Bedford dates back to the 19th century when the Cape Verdeans began migrating to the United States and significant numbers in the 1800s, primarily as crewmembers on the whaling ships, and many Cape Verdeans settled on Cape Cod, Rhode Island, New Bedford, and their surrounding areas. #CapeVerdeancuisine #CapeVerdeanFood #CapeVerdeanCulture #TasteOfCapeVerde #CapeVerdeanDishes #CapeVerdeanRestaurant #CapeVerdeanColonyEveryJourney #CapeVerdeanFoodReview #CapeVerdeanFoodExperience #newbedford #NewBedfordRestaurants #capeverdean #kriolu #goodfood #NewBedfordMA
