The venus fly trap is well known for its mouth like appendages and carnivorous appetite, but why is it carnivorous? The reason for its love for the taste of flesh comes down to where it came from. These plants are actually American from the bogs of North and South Carolina, in areas with poor soil. And because of the poor soil these plants adapted to a new way to get nutrients, by eating bugs. Tiny hairs trigger the mouth to snap shut and hold the insect in place while it dissolves into a nutrient rich soup. Providing the fly trap with all the nutrients it needs. And no, it isn’t quite into longpork yet.
