I build a dial server following the guide from dogemicrosystems. I wanted to go over a few things that that guide didn't cover. Ubuntu 18.04 was used but Ubuntu 20.04 will work using these instructions as well. The procedure is exactly the same between server and desktop systems. If you use the desktop version, you'll need to install SSH if you choose to manage it remotely.

The system requirements are outlined pretty well. The Compaq EVO used as a client has a Winmodem and that connected just fine. The IBM ThinkPad R52 has a softmodem and is not compatible. Your mileage may vary.
When I built this the first time, I missed a bracket (around the 19:13 mark) during my copy and paste on step 5. There are some profanities towards the end in frustration.
