Does the Ego Want to Be Free?
The ego has two fundamental contradictory desires - to die, to be consumed by the presence of awareness, to be dissolved into it, and to never be discovered. The inherent contradictory nature of the ego is why some experiences on the path to liberation are felt as madness.
