Sims 4 Advanced Building Tips
Whether you are a novice builder or not, here are some very helpful tips and tricks I constantly use, that can make your life so much easier when building in The Sims 4!
1) Hold SHIFT to drag each roof side individually. This is super useful when trying to create attics without the roof clipping in!
2) Select a roof piece and press CTRL + C to unlock more curvature options.
3) Hold ALT when you have a roof piece selected to raise/lower it freely without snapping.
4) Hold SHIFT when placing a trim/frieze/foundation to apply it on each wall side individually. You can also delete them individually the same way!
4.1) You can use the above method to apply trims in short walls where they are disabled by default. First raise the height of an unused floor level (basements can also work) to unlock the trims. Then by holding down SHIFT you can apply it on ANY walls (even short) one side at a time. Once you are done you can reset the height you raised on the floor level or delete that level completely! (you can also use this method to unlock tall windows/doors and use them on short walls too)
5) Hold ALT when placing a spandrel/fence/half-wall to apply them on each wall tile individually.
6) When using terrain tools hold SHIFT and scroll the MOUSE WHEEL to adjust the brush size. Hold CTRL and scroll the MOUSE WHEEL to adjust the brush intensity. Using this method you unlock a much bigger range of sizes instead of using the sliders.
7) Hold CTRL when drawing over walls/fences/pools/basements to remove them.
8) Press CTRL + F to unlock diagonal floor tiles. Click again to go back to normal.
9) When painting walls hold SHIFT to paint an entire room. Hold ALT to paint an entire wall section.
10) Hold ALT to place items off the grid.
11) Press F5 to unlock quarter tile placement for objects.
12) Hold SHIFT to place multiple instances of objects/rooms/roof pieces etc.
13) Press CTRL when placing stairs/ladders to place on the floor below instead of above.
14) When holding an object hold + and - on your numpad to go through the swatches.
15) You can place small items on top of half walls that have a flat trim.
16) Sofas and Loveseats can be slotted in the firepits from Outdoor Retreat. When using a sofa only the sim sitting in the middle can interact with the pit.
17) Market stalls have 2 barstool slots!
18) The glass pane from Island Living can be resized and used as a big flat skylight.
