Gaza solidarity protests continue to spread across US, abroad
US universities are on edge as pro-Palestinian protests sweep across the country. What started at the Columbia University campus in New York has even spread to other parts of the world. Protestors are demanding that universities divest from companies linked to Israel and drop support for defence companies who they accuse of being complicit in Israel’s war in Gaza. Pressure from students at Melbourne University to cut ties with Lockheed Martin has seen the Vice Chancellor step down. In Gaza, where the conditions remain dire, there’s some relief as the World Central Kitchen resumes operations. The Portuguese government has rejected a suggestion from the president that they pay reparations for slavery and other colonial-era crimes.
