From the megacity of Tokyo—one of the world’s densest, most dizzying metropolises of 37 million people—Japan is full of cities with their own charms and storied histories. In our journey through Japan, we explored Tokyo and the surrounding areas of Kamakura and Yokohama, before heading to the cultural capital Kyoto, the buzzing cities of Osaka and Kobe, the onsen filled resort area of Beppu, and the small coastal town of Gobo.
We experience a traditional matcha ceremony, walk through a shinto shrine’s thousand torii gates, cross the busiest intersection in the world, and get buried alive?! We also find true love in a ramen bowl and get treated to a few traditional Japanese meals by local friends Naoki and Hideki. Phew. We packed a lot in.
