Linux (systemd) boot time over 2 minutes - how to fix Ubuntu Photon OS
If your SYSTEMD based Linux OS is taking over 2 minutes to boot, this video may help you. A long or slow boot time can be annoying. In my datacenter environment, running VMware ESX on Dell R640s and R650s, I saw this issue on recent Ubuntu 22.04.3 Horizon Desktops as well as on VMware's Holodeck Toolkit component: holo-router.
As it turns out, the systemd-networkd-wait-online service was the culprit of the delay. It was waiting for ALL network devices to report their status which lead to meeting the 2 minute timeout before the OS would continue booting. This video demonstrates the issue as well as how to fix the problem.
