Lexichi tutorial: what to do if the UV editor breaks blender.
If the UV editor goes black or breaks blender, go to File then user preferences then the tab called "file" there you will find an option called "load ui" make sure it is disabled. then save user preferences, close blender and reopen it. Fixed.
