At Wake Tech, court volleyball has a strong history. Since 2015, court volleyball has averaged 20 wins per season. This success on the court has opened the door to other opportunities – one being the addition of beach volleyball. The coaches and a handful of court volleyball players have made a seamless transition to the sand of beach volleyball. The first competitive season for beach volleyball at Wake Tech was 2022.
Beach volleyball originated to have fun in the sun, but it is one of the most mentally and physically challenging sports to play. Over time, the rules have changed, leaving little similarity to the sport played inside. Beach volleyball is played in pairs, and the court size, the size and weight of the ball, player positions, and scoring are completely different from court volleyball.
