Existentialism is a prominent theme all throughout the film. Now, think about this. The world of Blade Runner is dark, dystopian, superficial, grimy, and violent. Basically, it is not exciting to live in – unless, I think, you have decided to live in the off-world colonies – and in this bleak world, the characters of Blade Runner 2049, particularly the Replicants, have shown their desires to find meaning in their lives, since they were artificially created.
