Regardless of the factors that determine this phenomenon—serial killer and maniac—one common conclusion can be reached: all serial killers had an extremely dysfunctional childhood. The terrible upbringing of most (if not all) serial killers primarily contributed to the development of pathology, filling them with such hatred and self-loathing that sadistic murder became a surrogate for intimacy. And yet, even the most abhorrent upbringing can't explain the emergence of serial killers...
Furthermore, many people who suffered in childhood do not later become criminals...
