Inoue Hisashi's masterpiece "Shakespeare in the 12th Year of Tenpo," which beautifully weaves the entire work of William Shakespeare as its weft and the popular late Edo period storytelling "Tenpo Suikoden" as its warp, will be performed again in December 2024.
This work is the latest collaboration between Fujita Shuntaro, who won the Best Director Award at the 28th Yomiuri Theater Awards and the Excellence Award at the 42nd Matsuo Entertainment Awards for the 2020 production, and music composer Miyagawa Akira. The previous production was unable to complete all performances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will reopen with a new cast for the first time in approximately four years.
The lead role will be played by Kenji Urai, who played "Kijirushi no Ouji" in the 2020 production, reprising his role as "Sado no Sanseiji." Also reprising their roles will be 2020 performers Fuka Yuzuki, Kate Doi, Yutaka Abe, Takamasa Tamaki, Shohei, Masayo Umezawa, and Katsumi Kiba.
New cast members include Yusuke Onuki, Hiroki Ino, Ouka Aya, Jun Sena, and Baijaku Nakamura.
The production will run from Monday, December 9th to Sunday, December 29th, 2024, at Nissay Theatre in Tokyo, before touring to Osaka, Fukuoka, Toyama, and Aichi! Tickets are on sale now.
