The original sketch included three main ingredients:
A vague version of the final melody achieved by playing a four note chord through Arturia’s ARP 2600. Each time the chord was triggered the notes were semi-randomly arranged through the ARP 2600’s three oscillators resulting in a different top note.
The skeleton of the bass line heard here in the final version played with a Moog style synth.
A Solina pad playing the background chords.
The development of the sketch consisted mainly of integrating guitar parts:
A counter melody played on an acoustic nylon string guitar. Three notes are always ringing which was achieved by retuning the guitar for each chunk of the part in order to maintain open string voicings.
The Solina chords are played by multiple layers of fretless guitar creating a fretless guitar choir.
The melody was made more specific and is played on a hollowbody electric guitar layered with a wavetable synth.
The bass and drums:
The bass part is played with a fretless bass recorded direct with almost no post-processing.
The drums are all made with Ableton’s drum synth devices aside from a washy crash/ride cymbal from superior drummer.
