This is a snapshot of how I did my Read -Alouds for my kindergarten class, during the unprecedented time of early Covid. I also model to parents and teachers of young children how to read with children. Reading with children is more effective and beneficial than reading to them. Asking open ended questions about characters feelings such as:”How is the character feeling and why?” “Have you ever felt this way?” “What might you have done differently if you were this character ?”These conversations will promote your child’s social and emotional awareness. They will feel good about themselves and develop confidence. It will also help them form secure relationships with others and ultimately will be able to focus and learn. This strong and healthy foundation will promote future academic success both in the classroom and at home.
