My friends and I decided to do a cover of one of our favorite songs. Written by Vic Ruggiero, this song was featured on the first Give 'Em the Boot compilation released in 1997 under the band name "the Silencers" with Tim Armstrong at the mic.
I wasn't 100% sure on the lyrics so I reached out to Vic Ruggiero to see if he could help me out. He said he wasn't entirely sure what Tim's exact lyrics were in the song either...but he gave me the original lyrics he wrote for the first verse along with the general theme of the song (see below). Vic also informed me that there had been a second verse written by "Sic and Mad" (Happy) and "the Forthrights" (Maddie Ruthless), then gave me permission to follow in this tradition and contribute a few of my own words if I would like... So I wrote 1 or 2 of my own words and hope no one is offended by that!
"The general theme of the tune is being stuck between a rock and a hard place... Between ideology and reality... The past and the present... A conundrum which I'm sure is as relatable in 2020 Kentucky as in 2020 NYC... and has remained frustratingly consistent since I first scribbled these words circa 1990." - Vic Ruggiero
