TNO Superevent - Atlantropan Catastrophe
Following several errors and mistakes made during the maintenance of the Gibraltar Dam, the dam has collapsed, leading to the ocean reclaiming its lands in the Mediterranean.
The year you interpret the year this happens can be whatever you want
but this would probably take place sometime between the 1960s-1990s
in my imagination.
