When the war in Ukraine started, Ilya Soroka knew he had to take action. With the help of his church and local Rotary Clubs, he opened a warehouse to facilitate donations to newly arriving refugees from Ukraine.
Pat Mulvihill, a Rotary Club member and community organizer, and other community members, also stepped up to make a difference. Together, they raised over $150,000 and provided much-needed furniture and supplies to those in need, including families who had to leave everything behind in Ukraine to find safety in the United States. "We are people of action," said Pat Mulvihill when speaking about his pride in his community.
The direct participation of everyday Americans, faith organizations, civic organizations, and other community organizations is critical to ensuring that vulnerable populations can access a pathway to safety and security in the United States.
