The Simonov semi-automatic carbine, or SKS, is one of the pillars of Russian arms history and tradition, alongside such legends as the Kalashnikov assault rifle and the Mosin-Nagant rifle.
Unfortunately, the SKS did not see action in the Great Patriotic War, but it earned a reputation as a reliable and accurate carbine in numerous other conflicts around the world, as well as in civilian service as a ceremonial and hunting weapon. We'll discuss the hunting versions—discover how they differ from the military versions, and determine which civilian versions of the SKS on the market are suitable for specific tasks.
