Bruce has conducted research on a wide range of ore deposit types, including VHMS deposits, epithermal deposits, structurally-controlled copper deposits, as well as modern seafloor hydrothermal systems. He also specialises in mineralogy and geochemistry of hydrothermal alteration and its application to exploration.
