Prop Making Tutorial: TC-5110F Coffee Cup Prop Mold
In this tutorial I mold a ceramic coffee cup to make a stunt, or action prop, version. I made the first version of this mold back in 2015. The original silicone used for that mold was sadly discontinued in 2017 or so. Originally, this mold and cast was for my kids' career day. I wanted to recreate the prop coffee cup that gets thrown at "The Dude" in the Big Lebowski.
This is a new formula that does exactly what the old formula did and then some so I decided to remake the mold. I used TC-5110F (Fast) to make the mold. TC-5110F is a platinum silicone that will accept a wide variety of casting materials. In a follow up video we will be showing different casting options.
Molding a ceramic pattern is tricky. Ceramic patterns can easily bond to silicone if not released properly. I used Zip 301 mold release to keep the silicone from bonding to the patterns cup.
