So as you probably know they recently buffed Magic Staff , a starter Magic Staff gives the magic damage equivalent of a RARE book AND you can hit with it. That means Smite/Fiery Weapon will deal additional damage. It doesn't matter how much armor the front liner has, we deal magic damage baby!
