This was the first animated climbing video I ever made - 1 year ago today.

I was experimenting with video formats already, but the process of learning this move opened my eyes to an entirely new way of learning movement and sharing videos.

Before this climb, I hadn’t spent any time working on coordination moves (I don’t think I even understood that as a category of climbing movement)

It took over 100 tries to finally land the move, but afterwards I could land it pretty consistently.

This triggered a realization that there was a whole category of climbing moves that weren’t impossible - they were just ONLY possible after absurd amounts of practice.

I had always struggled with the explosive strength to land & control difficult dynos, but this climb opened my eyes to leveraging technique & coordination over brute strength.

When I posted the video, I had (if I recall) 150 followers, all of whom were friends and family. After two weeks the video had crossed 10K views and I was SHOCKED.

I received kind messages and comments from all over the world and that affirmation inspired me to keep creating more climbing videos.

So this one climb became the basis for growth in my climbing journey AND my artistic endeavors. Just as the climbing community had warmly welcomed me to the gym, they welcomed me to the world of content creation - and for both I am forever grateful.
