Prometheus, Please (Official Video) from Wendy McNeill's upcoming album First There Were Feathers
Canadian/Swedish songstress Wendy McNeill releases the brand new cut ‘Prometheus Please’, the second single from the forthcoming album ‘First There Were Feathers.’
The album was conceived after a period of mourning McNeil experienced due to a large forest fire that took place near her home. It left her deeply affected and wondering how humanity could become so disconnected from the natural environment that maintains us.
She explains “Greek mythology has it that Prometheus gifted fire to humanity, having himself made us from clay, only to discover our vulnerability when compared to other creatures. Here I ask him what on Earth he was thinking. As someone who could also predict the future, could he not foresee how this would lead to the climate change mess we are now living through?”
In keeping with the theme of humanity being shaped from clay, the accompanying video is shot at the ceramic studio of Spanish artist Rafaella Pareja, who also provides the black arm of Prometheus.
This sparse and low-fi slice of indie magic is taken from the forthcoming album ‘First There Were Feathers,’ which further blends personal story amidst myth and legend, and is due for release on May 26th.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts in creating and recording First There Were Feathers
8) PROMETHEUS, PLEASE
Prometheus, please- what were you thinking?
Prometheus, Please
As the flames know - grief can be deeper
If you take till you choke, yes, grief can be deeper
Ghosts in the forms of glaciers and seabirds
Calls from coral to coal: fire, you’ve done me wrong, why?
Prometheus, please- what were you thinking?
Prometheus, please
As the waves roll- lost languages keeper
As the vultures they coast on winds that are meagre
Fed by what’s left- not killers but seekers
Through our failed tests- fire- we’ve done you wrong, why?
Prometheus, please- what were you thinking?
Prometheus, please
Oh Prometheus, please- what were you thinking?
Yes, your gift could ease, but also bring suffering
When we took the lead- you know
We would take everything
Could you not see that
We’d fuel our own ending?
Fire-what were you thinking?
Fire-what were you thinking?
Prometheus, please (could it be easy?)
What were you thinking?
Prometheus, please (could you let deeper in?)
Prometheus, please (could you go easy?) What were you thinking?
Prometheus, please (hear what we’re offering?)
As the flames roll
What were you thinking?
As the flames know
As the waves roll
What were you thinking?
As the flames know
Please...please...please...
