Managing Director of the Barcelona Libraries Consortium Ferran Burguillos presents the Gabriel García Márquez Library and Barcelona Libraries City Network in a talk with TBIH's Cheeyun Kwon. In 2023 it won the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions' Systematic Public Library of the Year Award.
Opened on May 28, 2022, the Gabriel García Márquez Library, dedicated to the Nobel laureate who lived in Barcelona, serves as the central library of the Sant Martí district and is part of the city’s network of 40 public libraries. Located in a vibrant working-class neighbourhood with an active civil society, the library also houses the residents association’s archive, preserving the area’s historical memory. It features an auditorium, a cooking workshop, and Radio Maconda - a radio studio offering services to local organizations and educational centers.
