Exploring the abandoned VEB Kraftfuttermischwerk in Fürstenberg (Havel), Germany. Built in 1912 as the Behrnsche Mühle, the mill was one of the largest flour producers in northern Germany. After the end of the second world war, the factory was collectivised and renamed VEB Mühlenwerk Fürstenberg. With the introduction of industrialised farming, the mill stopped producing flour and instead specialised on producing animal feed. With the switch in production, a new name came - VEB Kraftfuttermischwerk.
The VEB Kraftfuttermischwerk continued production for another two years after german reunification, until it all its assets and machines were sold off in 1992.
The VEB Kraftfuttermischwerk was bought and sold by several investors over the years, with the latest sale happening in 2021. The new investor plans on turning the VEB Kraftfuttermischwerk into a new city quarter called "Hafenfabrik" - though legal hurdles have hindered the project from being realised so far. Both the city and the investors are positive that construction will begin by 2027.
