Introduced in 1992, the original Monster 900 was a massive success for the Italian brand at a time it was struggling financially. Meanwhile, the modern Ducati Monster SP captures much of the original Monster's spirit. It is fast, lightweight, agile, easy-to-ride, and affordable - all attributes which helped the original bike rescue Ducati from its money issues in the 1990s.
The modern bike adds a 937cc Testastretta L-twin engine, high-spec Ohlins suspension and Brembo Stylema brakes, a Termignoni exhaust system, Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, and a brilliant race-inspired livery. But how exactly did it save Ducati?
