Always wanted a big garden.
Our first house was a dear little Victorian cottage in a terrace with a tiny garden. In summer the neighbours took it in turns to host barbecues and parties. All of the houses were owned by the occupiers and I think that's why they were house proud and respected each other. It only took one or two houses to be bought up by landlords to upset the peace and harmony. One day we were sitting with a friend and her 6 year old daughter on our patio when we heard someone on the phone in the garden next door. It was the loud voice of the type of person who needs to let everyone know his business a bit like Dom Jolly's character with The enormous phone. The voice said (shouted) 'I've just been in to the new place and had a shit and christened the toilet' . Our friend asked if we could go indoors. Someone said 'there goes the neighbourhood' .
When you have disrespectful neighbours, sometimes your only recourse is to dip in to your wallet go 'detatched'.
Our garden now could contain all six houses in the old terrace along with their gardens and we have also have a small meadow that we rent out bell tents in from time to time.
The people who used to play loud music and keep our son awake until two or three AM are long forgotten. Perhaps they have children of their own.
I wonder if they play loud music in to the early hours when their child is asleep? I wonder if they'll ask their toddler if they want to use the potty or will they shout 'DO YOU WANT A SHIT'
'Treat people the way you'd like to be treated' is a good motto that separates decent people from ignorant scum.
