A severe snowstorm has swept across the region, collapsing the civilian power grid and reducing visibility to a fraction of normal. Towns and settlements lie in complete darkness, broken only by scattered fires and the occasional flash of Covenant plasma.
Across Reach, the UNSC's defences have collapsed. The orbital battle has been lost, communications remain smothered beneath Covenant jamming, and what remains of the Army and Marine garrisons has been scattered into isolated pockets. Covenant Hunter-Killer teams are now conducting systematic sweeps, eliminating any survivors while the main invasion force continues its advance.
Following Havok Company's breakout through the southern mountain pass, Covenant pursuit has unexpectedly eased. The enemy has redirected its attention toward the opposite side of the mountain range.
There is only one reasonable conclusion: the Covenant have uncovered another Forerunner site, previously unknown to ONI. As the war has repeatedly demonstrated, they will readily suspend ongoing operations to secure relics they consider sacred.
Cut off from HIGHCOM, Havok Company has no way of knowing if any organised resistance remains elsewhere on Reach. Their only viable objective is the nearby Mike-26 Radar Station. If its long-range transmitter is still operational, it may be powerful enough to punch through Covenant jamming and establish contact with a surviving UNSC command element - perhaps long enough to coordinate a path off-world before the region is glassed.
