In 1982, Atari was at the height of its success. Billions in sales, full shelves, a worldwide hype about video games. But then something happened that changed the industry forever: Atari bought the rights to the hit movie E.T. – and wanted to bring the game to market in just five weeks.

What followed was a story full of megalomania, bugs, buried cartridges in the desert, and the infamous video game crash of 1983. But was E.T. really to blame? Or was it just a symptom of a much larger problem?
