One of the Fathers of Hip-Hop receives the Golden Popkiller in the birthplace of all hip-hop culture!
For hip-hop's 50th birthday, we decided to pay respect to people without whom none of us would be here. True pioneers who built the foundations of this culture.
The Golden Popkiller for lifetime achievements was received from us by Grandmaster Caz - the first rapper-DJ active since 1974 and the first lyrical rapper who included something more than "put your hands up" in the lyrics. Author of the text for the first hip-hop single in the history of "Rapper's Delight". The key inspiration of Jay-Z, Rakim or Big Daddy Kane. Pioneer. Icon.
We presented the award to him in the place where it all began - at the entrance to the building at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, where on August 11, 1973, an event considered the birth of hip-hop took place. New York City has officially named this spot the birthplace of hip-hop and marked it on maps with the sign "Hip Hop Boulevard"
Caz was clearly moved and said in front of the camera that it was for such recognition and appreciation as this award that they built hip-hop culture 50 years ago - see for yourself what he had to say to Polish fans.
We don't know if we can do anything more hip-hop than this, and we still can't believe that we managed to pay such tribute in the cradle of a culture that changed our lives.
Thus, we also announce that in addition to Golden Popkillers for people who build the Polish scene, we will also award Golden Popkillers to foreign artists every year, to show the pioneers that their merits are still remembered and appreciated even on the other side of the world.
