Clean Eating & Whole Foods: More and more people are forgoing highly processed products and paying close attention to what their food actually contains. It should also be as fresh as possible. This is precisely the concept behind Clean Eating. A good idea, but Clean Eating, and especially a whole-food diet, also requires a fair amount of discipline and planning.

Is healthy eating possible? How does one actually eat truly healthily? Does this mean you have to give up meat? Are vegetables always healthy? And where exactly is the line between healthy and unhealthy? The Clean Eating diet aims to answer these questions once and for all. For several years, Clean Eating enthusiasts have been promoting this method as the best way to eat as healthily and sustainably as possible. Healthy weight loss through Clean Eating, healthy weight maintenance through Clean Eating – these are the underlying ideas.
What exactly is Clean Eating?
The first basic principle of Clean Eating sounds quite simple: We don't eat highly processed foods. However, if you think about it a step further, it should immediately become clear how significant this restriction actually is in real life. In everyday life, meals have to be well-planned and cooked from scratch because fast food and convenience products are off the menu. Basic principle number two further restricts the choices. All foods should be eaten as fresh and simply as possible. This is how a healthy diet is possible.
Which foods are forbidden in Clean Eating?
Genetically modified products or those grown with pesticides naturally rarely end up in the shopping cart when following a clean eating plan. Examples include genetically modified soy, genetically modified sugar, or even genetically modified rennet in cheese. We should also pay close attention to advertising claims, as slogans like "reduced fat" or "sugar-free" often indicate that we're dealing with a highly processed product containing hidden additives. A thorough check of the ingredient list is therefore always worthwhile in the supermarket.
Clean Eating in Everyday Life
This all sounds great in theory, but what does it look like in everyday life? What do we have to cut back on, and how much extra work does a clean diet entail? At first glance, clean eating can seem quite sobering. Anyone switching directly from a previously unconscious diet to clean eating should plan for significantly more time in the supermarket and when preparing food. Grabbing breakfast or lunch at the bakery on the way to work is out of the question for most people, and many ready-made salads from the supermarket, and especially anything from the fast-food sector, are also off-limits. So we have to prepare our own food, often fresh every day, since we're avoiding preservatives. Cooking for yourself usually means eating healthily.
