This TV movie is the first audiovisual adaptation of Asterix and Obelix, released 10 months earlier on television than 'Asterix le Gaulois' (1967).
It was directed by Pierre Tchernia, who was included in many Asterix albums as a supporting actor.
Actor Lino Ventura makes a small cameo 35:41. He appears caricatured as the centurion Aerobus in 'Asterix and the Roman Agent' (1970).
