What most traders call excitement is just emotional activation.
It’s your limbic system taking control — the part of your brain built for survival, not decision-making. It reacts fast, it seeks stimulation, and it prioritizes immediate outcomes over long-term consistency. That’s useful if you’re avoiding danger. It’s destructive if you’re managing risk.
When that system is driving, you don’t follow a plan. You react. You chase movement. You justify entries. You override rules.
Boredom is the opposite state.
Boredom means the prefrontal cortex is in control — the part of the brain responsible for planning, logic, and restraint. It’s slower, more deliberate, and far less interested in stimulation. It doesn’t care that the market is moving. It cares whether the criteria are met.
That’s why good trading feels uneventful.
You’re not riding the market. You’re executing a checklist.
