We have recently produced a stop motion video for Bindle, a company delivering exquisitely presented hand wrapped, Australian designed gifts.
The client required a video to portray their products, but to be engaging and short!
What is it?
Basically it is a series of pictures that when played together depicts motion. Difference from conventional video is that there are less pictures, which makes it quicker and less smooth! Actually a number of notable children TV programmes are stop motion - think Shaun the Sheep!
Good for?
For marketing and communications its a great video production style for portraying products in a creative and engaging way.
How it’s done
Like any good video production, preparation is key. A story board is drawn out and a detailed description of each scene. This is approved by the client before the shoot. The shoot itself takes place in our melbourne video production studio and is an intensive process of moving, frame by frame, the products and taking a picture at each stage. We took 300 pictures!
Point of Difference
We chose to shoot on green screen. Although technically more challenging, it ultimately provides the client with greater flexibility e.g. changing the background or even products / amendments in the future.
Things to consider:
Duration - short is sweet
Products - make sure they are new and in exceptional condition!
Storyboard it. Reshooting is a time and costly process!
