Investigating Croc Teeth
Rudolph, Museum research assistant, spends a lot of time looking at lots and lots of croc teeth. We have several drawers of unidentified croc teeth from the Maevarano Formation of Madagascar that Rudolph works to identify. We can tell the difference between teeth in the skull, but it’s harder to tell the difference between isolated teeth. He uses a microscope to look at dozens of teeth still in the jaw, takes plenty of notes, and even does statistics to see which traits are most useful to help identify teeth that aren't in a jaw.
